Checked in easily Friday afternoon at Barbary Coast. No problem with lines often encountered at bigger resorts. Checked out the full-play Deuces Wild and dropped about $50. Had some straights and flushes but big payoffs were elusive. Rooms at Barbary Coast are large with good size TV. Best view is from south overlooking Bally's and Bellagio. The side I was on overlooked Flamingo and you could hear their air conditioning or ventilation units but it wasn't bothersome. Decoration is on the dark side with heavy furniture. Room was clean. Bath is small but the small exterior window is a nice touch. I recommend the hotel for those into gambling who don't care too much about a pool (there isn't one) or showroom.

Location is perfect. Easy walks to Bally's Bellagio, Caesar's, Flamingo. Catch the bus outside Flamingo to go downtown ($2 a trip). I find the Strip casinos not the best to gamble in. Downtown, I enjoyed playing at Main St. Station, California. Mid-strip the Stardust was good for craps. Same at Sahara.

As far as food goes, I can recommend the fairly small Victorian coffee shop at Barbary Coast. For a nothing-fancy and inexpensive buffet, I recommend Sahara. The Main Street Station buffet was the best with food stations, pleasant sunny atmoshere and good service. Peking Market in Flamingo is a good Chinese restaurant.

The weather was in 60s and breezey, a bit colder than usual for April. A few rain sprinkles in the afternoon.

Another feature of Barbary Coast is shuttle to Oreleans and Gold Coast. Catch it, for free, on Flamingo Road side about every 20 minutes starting at 9:30 a.m. This is where taxis stop but getting one in the heavy traffic, especially weekends, is a chore. Played Deuces Wild, full pay, at Orleans without a lot of luck but it was fun. Good run at Blackjack tables with some local folks. Caught a movie there too in their fine multi-plex cinema.

Flew to Las Vegas on Continental. From Hartford with a stop in Cleveland. No problems. Return flight another story. Las Vegas to Newark was a half hour late and missed connection in Newark. Had a six-hour wait for a quick trip to Hartford. Airline blamed bad weather over Midwest for long northern route to Newark, but they didn't hold the plane in Newark for those of us with connections... oh well, live and learn....
